EVTA Trails Boogie, coming Thursday, June 5th!

The 2014 Trails Boogie will be held Thursday evening, June 5 at the Liberty in Downtown Elkin. Celebrate with Elkin Valley Trails Association at their annual fundraiser with Dennis Gruenling and Doug Demming with the Jeweltones. These award-winning musicians are back for the fourth year and have become a part of the EVTA tradition. Enjoy a great community celebration of our area trails and all the volunteers and supporters who have made it all happen! Admission is free and donations to EVTA are welcome. Food, cold beverages, trails information, silent auction, dancing and some awesome jump blues/swing music will make it a night to remember!

Saturday, April 5th                                Predators of Stone Mountain

Meet with a ranger at the A Loop Washhouse to learn about the different predators that call Stone Mountain home. This program will begin at 10 am.


Saturday, April 5th                                Photo Hike

Meet with a ranger at the Lower Parking Lot for a hike to the Stone Mountain Falls. Along the way we will be stopping to take photographs. This program is for any and all amateur photographers. The hike will be three miles, please wear appropriate footwear for hiking. Do not forget to bring a camera! The program begins at 1 pm and will last approximately 2 hours. Weather permitting.


Sunday, April 6th                                  Mountain Trout

Meet with a ranger at the Backpack Parking Area to learn about the different species of mountain trout that live in Stone Mountain. This program will begin at 2 pm.


Saturday, April 12th                              Kid’s Program

Meet with a ranger at the A Loop Washhouse. We will learn how to find different things in the woods. This program is geared for children ages 4 to 14. Program begins at 9:30 am.


Saturday, April 12th                              Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs

Meet with a park ranger at the Hutchinson Homestead to learn how folks use to dye their Easter eggs. There will be a demonstration of a variety of natural dyes made from fruits and vegetables that can be found in your own garden. This program is for children of all ages. This program begins at 1 pm.

Meet with a park staff member at the Lower Lot Trailhead for a guided hike to Wolf Rock and Cedar Rock.

Sunday, April 20th                                Still Hike

Meet with a ranger at the Visitor Center at 11 am for a hike to a local still site that got destroyed by local ALE officers in the late 1950’s. We will also discuss the history of moonshining.


Sunday, April 20th                                Mammals of Stone Mountain

Meet with a ranger at the A Loop Washhouse at 2 pm to learn about the different mammals that live in Stone Mountain.


Tuesday, April 22nd            Earth Day Hike – TRACK Trail

Join a ranger on the Kid’s Track Trail for a family friendly hike to Stone Mountain. This program will begin at 1 pm.

Meet with a ranger at the A Loop Washhouse at 10 am to learn about the different animals that call Stone Mountain their home.


Saturday, April 26th                              Hutchinson Homestead Tour

Meet with a ranger at the Lower Parking Lot for a short hike to the Hutchinson Homestead to learn about the living in the 1800’s. Tour starts at 2pm. 


Sunday, April 26th                                Sunset Hike to Stone Mountain Falls

Meet with a ranger at the Upper Parking Lot at 6 pm for a short hike to the top of Stone Mountain Falls. This program will last 1 hour.

First Baptist Church of Elkin will celebrate's it's 125th Anniversary on Sunday, May 4th beginning with Sunday School at 9:45; pre-service music at 10:45; historical video at 10:55; ringing of the original steeple bell at 11:00 to call us to worship; covered dish lunch following worship. All friends and former members are invited to join in this celebration.


First United Methodist Church Preschool. Our goal is to provide a safe place for children to learn important social, emotional, physical, and language skills in a Christian environment. Our Mother's Morning Out Program is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00am to 1:00pm. This is for children ages 9 months to 3 years old. We have qualified and experienced teachers for each age group. 

Our Pre Kindergarten Class, for the 4 year old children, is either a 5 day a week program or a 3 day a week program. This depends on your family’s needs and desires. Your 4 year old can come all 5 days of the week from 9:00am to 1:00pm or you could choose for them to only come on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
