These 7 Elkin wineries and tasting rooms are as different as their names, and each one is definitely worth the visit. Your palate won't be disappointed! Spend the day enjoying the vineyards, the scenery, and relaxing with a great glass of wine. Our location makes this perfect for year round visits. Most wineries here offer wine club discounts, music during weekends and special tasting events. Adagio Vineyards is located at 139 Benge Drive, off of Carter Mill Road and is the newest vineyard to open in Elkin. This vineyard's tasting room opened Friday, April 4th, 2014. Elkin is excited about the addition of this gorgeous venue and all is has to offer the Yadkin Valley wine region. Their tasting room is available for party rentals. Brushy Mountain Winery is located in downtown Elkin, at 125 W Main Street, and is the perfect stop on weekends and during festivals in downtown Elkin... stop in while strolling along Main Street. New owners have taken over as of October 2012 and have created a glamorous, sophisticated new look filled with great art, exposed brick, and beautiful color schemes throughout. There is even original art from the early 1900's on the walls that was uncovered during recent renovations. Plenty of seating for relaxing with friends. A trip to Elkin Creek Vineyard, located along Big Elkin Creek at 318 Elkin Creek Mill Road, Elkin, transports you to the Italian countryside. The beautifully appointed winery with stone oven (they now offer Stone-fired pizza on Sundays), and charming views from all directions make this a relaxing and enjoyable stop on the wine trail. There are many cozy settings where you can wander and enjoy... the babbling creek, swings, a historical mill, or a shaded patio. Grassy Creek Vineyard and Winery is located about 1/4 mile above North Elkin off Klondike Road and Hwy 21 at the 100-acre historical retreat called Klondike Cabins (235 Chatham Cottage Cir, State Road, NC). This location used to be a working dairy farm and has a great story about their famous Guernsey cow (thus the great wine bottles made from milk bottles)...you'll just have to visit to hear the rest of the story! Sit by the fireplace and enjoy a bottle of wine. If you like to hike or take a quiet walk, the shaded Grassy Creek Walking Trail is only steps away, along with a covered pavilion for a picnic lunch. Carolina Heritage Vineyard and Winery located at 170 Heritage Vines Way (only 3 miles east from downtown Elkin's Main Street, on Hwy 268 East just east of the Mitchell River), is Elkin's newest gem and the only certified organic winery and vineyard in the Southeast. The tasting room is also solar-powered and they have over 9 acres of vineyards. Besides offering delicious wine, they feature live music most Saturdays (2:00-4:00 pm) in the summer, and enjoy promoting local musicians (especially Bluegrass) and fine Carolina pottery...even the Tasting Room was built with local wood. Skull Camp Brewery/ Round Peak Vineyard Owners of Round Peak Vineyard in Mount Airy have expanded to Elkin and have opened a microbrewery at the old Basin Creek Country Store location (1980 N Bridge St). A restaurant will be opening within the year with a tasting room on the 2nd floor, but a craft brewery and tasting room have been added behind the restaurant and are open for your local NC craft beer experience! Hours for Skull Camp are Fridays and Saturdays from 12 noon till 6pm. Slightly Askew Winery Located at 913 N Bridge Street (just a few minutes north of downtown Elkin), is not your typical winery. Although it's not nestled alongside a vineyard, they make all of their 28 varieties on site. It is a great destination for good conversation, friendly atmosphere and quirky stories about how their wines are named (especially if you are a pet lover). A wide variety of unique, delicious dry reds & whites, to sweeter fruit wines along with wine accessories and glasses, wine-making supplies, fun gifts, and gourmet goodies. This is a great stop if your with a large group with diverse tastes. Watch for their "Thirsty Thursday" signs out front for live entertainment, food, and a great night out with your friends. Yadkin Valley Micro-Wine Shop is located at 222 E Main Street at The Liberty, but inside of the Ivy Ridge Traditions Gift Shop. Try a variety of featured Yadkin Valley Wines with this state of the art automatic dispenser. You can choose a sip, a 1/2 glass or a full glass, before you decide to purchase a bottle. Currently there are over 20 selections to choose from. Wine accessories are also available. Open during the same hours as Ivy Ridge Traditions. Olde Mill Vineyards
About 20 minutes northeast of Elkin, is Olde Mill Vineyards. Their rustic tasting room has been created out of a 1800's farmhouse and homestead. Many of the buildings are original and well preserved. Owners Jeff & Tara Brown created a little piece of heaven in the rolling countryside, that offers an outdoor patio with views of the vineyards, an indoor sunroom with lots of seating to relax in, and a cozy tasting room with a big beautiful stone fireplace and comfortable stools. You'll feel right at home with this friendly, welcoming atmosphere and delicious, award-winning wines to compliment your experience. Their son, Ethan, is the Chief Winemaker.
Located at 2742 Simpson Mill Road in Mount Airy, your GPS may take you within blocks of the entrance, but the sign is easily seen, so you'll know you've arrived. Round Peak Vineyard
Round Peak is the best place to visit in the Mt Airy area (just north of Elkin and Dobson) that offers beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a great selection of delicious dry to sweet wines as well as beer, a huge covered patio with tables, ceiling fans and grills (check their website for Grillfest during the summer months), a fenced area for those traveling with pets, and many opportunities for live music on the weekends, family fun, and relaxation. They are only a few minutes from I-77 and easy to find along a beautiful, winding mountain road.

Un'Corked is a wine shop that offers wine tastings for local and other wines you may not have had a chance to try in this area. They also have unique wine gifts, t-shirts, and other great home accessories. Not considered a part of the Surry Wineries (as they do not make their own wine) they still offer a chance to experience tastings (they change daily so you can stop in often and try different types) and feature their own brand of bottled wine with fun "Mayberry" themed labels for souvenirs.
