Reevestock Music Festival listed in top 8 music festivals for Charlotte area events

Reevestock Music Festival is held during the first weekend in August each year at Elkin's Hidden Amphitheater. It's an amazing event not only because it has a great music selection, but also because the venue is so unique to the state. This year Charlotte Five listed it as a festival not to miss, and even featured a photo of Reevestock as their main photo lead!

Elkin High School Environmental Club beautifies downtown!

The Environmental Club was busy last week preparing the soil and planting seeds along one of Elkin's downtown streets. Teachers April Swarey and Ruthann McComb supervised the group while they dug up weeds and replaced the area with good soil, wildflower seeds and mulch. So far, they have completed about 1/3 of the project and plan to finish the rest soon.

New public transportation provided by YVEDDI

New buses to transport residents around Elkin and to nearby towns.

Only $1 per ride on the bus...a great way for those without transportation to get out and enjoy Elkin. The route goes from the Town Hall, past the hospital, to WalMart, Food Lion, Goody's, downtown Elkin and will drive up to 3/4 mile off of the route to any location. 

The Connector bus can take you to Mount Airy, Boonville, Dobson or Jonesville

Walmart Teams Up With Local Organizations for Good Cause

Customers at Walmart will find more than just savings at the register this weekend. Elkin’s Walmart is joining forces with the Dyslexia Services Foundation, a local non-profit organization, and the Yadkin Valley Rotary Club to provide free dyslexia screenings for children ages 6 to 14.

Christmas Eve at First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church of Elkin sent these beautiful photos of their church that is decorated for Christmas. They are offering a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service celebration and are inviting anyone in the community who would like to attend. There is also a children's service at 5pm in the chapel, and they can participate in the story by dressing up as a shepherd, a Wiseman, Mary, or stable animals if they like! TRACK Trails for Kids at Elkin Municipal Park

The TRACK Trail Ribbon-Cutting was last weekend at the Elkin Municipal Park. Everyone gathered behind the tennis courts at the gazebo to celebrate the beginning of this new program in Elkin for children. Each TRACK Trail has a series of brochure-led self-guided adventures designed to turn an ordinary hike into a fun-filled adventure. The Surry County Beekeepers Association held its latest annual field day and certification Saturday the 14th, in Mount Airy. Elkin Jaycees 19th Annual 4th of July Celebration vendors wanted!

The Elkin Jaycees are planning now for their Annual 4th of July Celebration at Elkin Municipal Park. Currently they are looking for craft, non-profit, clothing and food vendors. The celebration will be held on July 4th, 2012, from roughly 4-10pm. Vendor fee is $125, however, non-profits representing themselves or interested in raising awareness for their cause, are free. Boy Scout Troop 648 (located at First United Methodist scout hut) "Scouting for Food" Drive

The Boy Scouts of Elkin Troop 648 would like to thank the community for all of their participation in the food drive last weekend. The troop estimates about 1300 pounds of food (150 bags) were donated by Elkin residents for those less fortunate in the area. Thanks to everyone who contributed, it was greatly appreciated!
