Friend of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail Annual Conference to be held in Elkin!

March 24-26 (2017) this 40th anniversary celebration of the MST will be held in here in Elkin, North Carolina!  We are expecting 300 members from around North Carolina to join us for a 3-day weekend, filled with conference events, and Elkin has also put together a number of fun and exciting events and tours that are scheduled all weekend long!

Elkin Trails offer a fabulous walk filled with beautiful scenery

Elkin's trails are now open for enjoying walks along Big Elkin Creek. The Elkin Valley Trails Association has been working hard to get these trails open to the pubic. Last Friday, a new bridge was installed to carry hikers over Big Elkin Creek and extend the trail closer to their goal.  You can start at Elkin's Municipal Park and walk along this trail up to a gong which you can ring to sound to the world, you have conquered the trail.

Elkin Biking, Cycling, takes shape!

If you are interested in learning about or helping with cycling in Elkin, whether it be attending planning meetings, charting the paths along the roadways, or working on mountain bike trails, there is a way to stay connected with locals who are working towards a bike friendly town that you might want to be a part of!

UNC-TV North Carolina Now features Elkin NC

  • Elkin Trails--Heather Burgiss travels to Elkin to bring us the latest on the town's trail system.  The Overmountain Victory Trail is a part of the National Trails System administered by the National Park Service. Elkin is now an official Trail Town!

The Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) is a long-distance trail, for hiking and  backpacking, that runs across North Carolina from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. The trail's western endpoint is at Clingman's Dome, where it connects to the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
