Eris Ball and Aesthetic Installations in Elkin

One minute the window you drive by has a huge painting catching your attention. The next time, you notice colorful images strewn across a store front, or a display that looks so fabulous, it draws you in. Who is responsible for all of this color, creativity and artistic flair along our downtown streets? It Elkin's own Eris Ball, who came up with this idea last Spring, after reading an article in Food and Wine Magazine. The article featured a woman who enjoyed creating fun spaces in her refrigerator, but Eris was inspired to take it a step further, transforming empty window spaces in downtown Elkin into works of art.

Eris enjoys bringing fun images to the store fronts in Elkin. Her current collaboration is called "Effen Paper Strings", and she has created various images using the same colored paper in all of the four businesses who enjoy her quarterly creations. She decided to do similar images on purpose, in hopes that more people would take notice and become curious about the windows she designs.

If you are interested in having your store's window decorated, or you just need some help creating an interesting display that will bring curious customers into your store, Eris provides this service free of charge. At times, she will install local artist's work, and if that results in the sale of the art, then a small percentage of the sale will go to Eris, and the business owner for allowing the installation. Local businesses and artists who are interested in showcasing their art are welcome to contact Eris at

This is another window that Eris has painstakingly created, however there are more photos and stories at her web blog, which you can view at . It is a very impressive site that tells stories and shows fun photos of her previous window displays. The current locations of her work can be found at International Specialty Insurance, ACM Agency, Yadkin III, and at the old soda bottling company on S Bridge Street. Next time you drive by and take notice, Eris and the participating businesses and artists will surely appreciate it!
