Travel writers have the best job. This article is about Elkin's trails and why they are wonderful for everyone to use, including older tourists... I'd say Elkin is a great place to retire not only because of the friendly residents, but for the fantastic amenities we offer!

  • Elkin Trails--Heather Burgiss travels to Elkin to bring us the latest on the town's trail system.  The Overmountain Victory Trail is a part of the National Trails System administered by the National Park Service. Elkin Trails by Bob Hillyer

Elkin is an important trail head for three trails which total over fourteen hundred miles.  The Mountains to the Sea Trail and the Over Mountain Victory Trail are hiking trails.  The Yadkin River Trail is a "bluewater" trail.

The Mountains to the Sea Trail stretches from Clingman's Dome on the Tennessee border in the Great Smoky Mountians to Jockey's Ridge on the Atlantic Ocean.  Once complete, it will approach a thousand miles in length.  Currently, the western section is complete to Stone Mo...
