This little gem on Main Street in Elkin was once the old E&A ticket office for the train that is no longer in existence. Today, you can stay overnight in downtown Elkin and experience a blast from the past in this cute and cozy VRBO rental.  The restoration look over a year and it is beautiful, inside and out. Reevestock Music Festival is held during the first weekend in August each year at Elkin's Hidden Amphitheater. It's an amazing event not only because it has a great music selection, but also because the venue is so unique to the state. This year Charlotte Five listed it as a festival not to miss, and even featured a photo of Reevestock as their main photo lead!

Many of you may know that below 222 Public House (in downtown Elkin) there is a brand new microbrewery that just opened!  Well, save the date for April 7th, as that is slated for a big Grand Opening Celebration when Angry Troll Brewing and 222 Public House merge!

In the most recent AAA motorist magazine called "Go",  our very own downtown restaurant, Roxxi and Lulu's Bistro and Bakery, was mentioned as a must go location when visiting the Yadkin Valley! 

We are so excited to have them here in Elkin.  They are located one block south of Main Street in downtown Elkin, on W Standard Street.  They're open Tues - Saturday for breakfast and lunch, and are now open for dinners Thursday and Friday nights! Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7794 of Elkin recognizes Mark Garner, a local area Afghanistan War Casualty with the changing of its post's name and the dedication of a local trail in his honor. The National Veterans of Foreign Wars approved the renaming of Post 7794 to the CAPTAIN MARK GARNER Post in September 2014 and the Town of Elkin approved a request to name a section of trail within Elkin Municipal Park in his honor at the October 6th Town Board Meeting.

Jason Wiseman, winemaker at Brushy Mountain Winery since 2008, recently added a new title: owner.


Wiseman and partner Amy Euliss purchased the downtown Elkin winery in December. They plan to continue the vision set forth by previous owner Beth Duncan to remake Brushy Mountain into a vibrant urban winery on Elkin's Main Street.

The first mural (seen here in progress) is of two historical landmarks that are no longer here in Elkin. One is of the Elkin train depot that used to be located on S Bridge Street next to the RR tracks (behind Twenty One & Main) and the other is of Hugh G Chatham Memorial Bridge that was torn down by the DOT in 2010.  Both are dearly missed, but the images of them bring back the fond memories we have of them. This mural will depict old images of businesses no longer open that were unique to Elkin, along with a license plate issued in the 70's and 80's that used to adorn cars throughout town! Sam Cason took a trip to Ohio for a fencing tournament this weekend and did pretty darn good considering this is the top 6% in the country that qualified to compete! He finished 136th. Sam's Mom, Barbara, attached a picture from the state games in Mooresville a couple of weekends ago. He finished 25th in the state which is a little different because in the state games there was no age limit. He had to fence grown men who were bigger and stronger than he was. The USTA North Carolina honored Elkin's Janet Moseley with the J.S. Love Adult Tennis Female 2011 Player of the Year. The awards ceremony was held at Pinehurst Resort last Saturday, January 28th. The US Tennis Association honored 31 contributors to the game of tennis who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion and support of tennis in North Carolina. Congratulations Janet!

Elkin High School Girls Tennis Team and NCHSAA Girls Tennis State Championships

Today, October 25, the Elkin High School Girls Tennis Team were warming up for the big match against Mt Airy during the NCHSAA Girls Team State competition. On October 18th, they played against Hendersonville and won the first round of the tournament.

The weather was beautiful and the crowd was hopeful for a win during the District Round.

Although they fought hard, the end result was for Mt Airy to continue on to the next round.  Great job this year girls...you almost made it to the top!
