Art Hike season in downtown Elkin begins during the FMST conference

Art/live music/beer/wine and local outfitters joined together for a 6 hour stroll in downtown.  Participants from the conference visited various art studios, the arts council and the new hydroponic shop in downtown Elkin, enjoying entertainment at every stop! Dan Butner of the Foothills Arts Council organized the locations, music and tasting stations. Everyone enjoyed the downtown event from the conference, and even the locals joined in on the fun!

After the tree lighting ceremony on Market Street, crowds gathered by The Liberty for a show like no other!

New Farmers Market shelter has been completed!

Starting in April, 2015, the new farmers market shelter will be in use for 22 market vendors and will include a unisex restroom.  There will be plenty of room for expansion to the east of the shelter for those busier months when the market expands to 25 or more vendors. The additional vendors would be setting up under tents, as was the case before the new shelter was constructed. April 18th, 2015 will be the opening day of the market. Elkin Valley Fiddlers By The River Festival

2nd Annual Fiddle Event in Elkin offered a fantastic afternoon of music, from 11 to 7pm...and all free to the public. Feature band was the Kruger Brothers who played for 1 1/2 hours at the end of the day. 

They were really good!..thanks to the local Elkin Valley Fiddlers group for putting on this great event.

Hundreds of people came from all over to attend. It was a very successful event!

Twenty One & Main has offered the side of their building to be the canvas for the last of the 4 mural projects from the Main Street Advisory Board. They would like to thank the many contributors who helped to make this mural a success!  Jeff Gibbs was asked what type of theme he would like for the side of the wall and he suggested honoring the vineyards in the area that help to contribute to our economy in Elkin. Elkin Farmers Market now open!

222 Public House offers live music!

Luke Mears and Corey Myers played fabulous sets all night long at 222 Public House on East Main Street in Elkin. The owners of this new sports bar said they've been open to suggestions from their patrons who have asked for live music more often. Foothills Arts Council's fall event with Elkin Big Band

It was a wonderful evening with the Elkin Big Band entertaining the crowd. Everyone enjoyed live music, dancing, refreshments, Elkin Creek Vineyard, the gallery show from local artists to created funky art with found pieces of discarded items, plenty of great conversation and a fire pit in the garden provided s'mores for all.

The first place winner for pumpkins this year weighed in at 1010 pounds.

Huge watermelons too!

Live music was featured at the Reeves Theater all day long.

Families were enjoying the kid section as well.

The Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival added a new twist this year. The Great Elkin Antique Festival offered 30 antique vendors to the mix, along S Bridge Street. Stop in at Keystone Grill when you have the chance. They opened a few weeks ago and are open till 8pm during the week and also Friday, Saturday and Sunday!!  The owners used to have this restaurant in N Wilkesboro but have moved it to Elkin to continue their business...please stop in and support them. They are a wonderful, friendly, mother and daughter team we are lucky to have downtown! (next to Heaven's Scent)

2013 Tour de Yadkin

Elkin's Crater Park was the campsite for the paddlers

EVTA helped volunteer for the event along with local, Suzanne Spence.

Paddlers arrived on Friday and stayed in downtown through Sunday.

Some stayed at local hotels, others at the park along the Yadkin River.

Events throughout the weekend were planned for the paddlers.

Friday night at Twenty One & Main, Bandit's Roost entertained the crowd. Fiddles Pub also offered live music throughout the weekend.

2013 Appalachian Moonshine Rally in Elkin, NC

Saturday morning, the Moonshine Rally gathered on Main Street for registration. This was a fund raiser for Lupus and it occurs here every summer. The participants drive through the countryside and end up at a mysterious location to enjoy the afternoon...this year's destination, unknown to them, was Elkin Creek Vineyard.

Farmers Market season has begun!

Every Saturday from 9am to noon, the Elkin Farmers Market will be open, offering fresh food, baked goods, eggs, meats, plants grown locally by area farmers. All participating farmers have their farms inspected as well as their kitchens if baked goods are offered. These are a terrific group of local growers that are happy to provide you with the freshest foods around!

Elkin' s Night Up Light

Main Street was full of activity last Friday night during Light Up Night. This year the mayor, Lestine Hutchens was able to start a new tradition by lighting up a tree fashioned on the marque of the Reeves Theater. Dancers from various studios in Elkin provided entertainment for the crowds, Santa read stories to the kids, free buggies rides up and down Main Street and shops stayed open late for shoppers. The new cabins are open and ready to rent for a fun weekend getaway....

Kids from Elkin Middle School and Elementary School came to learn about the OVTA and the experiences associated with our regional history during the Revolutionary War.

It was a rainy day, but the blacksmith needed to remain outside with his fire and tools.

Saturday was a gorgeous day for a festival, and Elkin had the Pumpkin Festival scheduled with an entire day of fun, food, music, pumpkin contests, kids events, dancers, produce, crafts, and vendors galore! The crowd was terrific and this was also a dog friendly event. Families enjoyed an entire day on Main Street. There was also a Quilt Show and Pie Eating Contest. Check out some of the photos below!

EVTA Duck and Turtle Regatta 2012

After the Pumpkin Festival ended, the EVTA hosted a regatta which occurred behind the Elkin Public Library. Ducks and Turtles (rubber) were sold during the festival for a fund raiser and a chance to win great prizes! Below are some photos and video of this fun event. Winner have yet to be announced!

This morning (Sunday) a small, brave group of Elkin Valley Trail Association adventurers, decided to try a launch from Elkin Creek Vineyard and float down to the park in Elkin.

The weather was perfect and the cars glowed in the morning sunlight with proud owners preparing for the drive through the NC countryside, and ending up at Grassy Creek Vineyards for the afternoon. It was a great turnout for the Christmas Parade last Saturday. Crowds lined both sides of Main Street from one end to the other!

Many children were waiting for the floats to hand out or throw candy to the crowds, which eventually filled their bags as full as Santas sleigh....

There were 5 High School Marching bands in the parade this year...

They sounded great as they marched along the route from Jonesville to Elkin's Main Street...

Elkin 2011 Community Chorus

Last Sunday, the Elkin Community Chorus sang for two performances. The afternoon performance was filled in attendance, packing in everyone all the way into the balcony! The second performance, which is typically less attended, was still about 2/3 full. The chorus does record these events and then sells CDs to those placing orders.
